The start of the story
Giovanni Ubaldo Panzani was born in Italy in 1911. He became French in 1929 and was known as Jean Panzani. He began to make fresh homemade pasta in the attic of his parents-in-law and then delivered it by bicycle.

After the war, he built his first fresh pasta factory in Parthenay. The return to the free market and the end of the ration cards in 1949 gave Jean Panzani new ambitions...

The Panzani brand was born!
In 1950, Jean Panzani launched the Panzani Pasta brand: the cellophane packet is born! A mini revolution in the world of pasta: the consumer was now able to see the product before buying it. It was an instant success.
In 1952, Panzani extended his business by offering tomato sauces in tin cans! A simple and tasty idea to accompany your pasta!

The rise and the success of the brand
Panzani merged with the La Lune company then with Régia Scaramelli and became the no.1 for pasta. The brand quickly took its place in the new world of mass consumption.
To guarantee constant quality for the consumer, Panzani then integrated the Saint Just semolina factory and developed a new business: milling.

The right words to say it
The Danone group bought the Panzani company in 1973. The famous slogan "des pâtes, oui mais des Panzani! " (Pasta yes, but make sure it's Panzani) appeared and would make its mark on a generation. With the affable character of Don Patillo, Panzani made pasta a food that we were happy to enjoy and savour! For 25 years this character would accompany the Panzani advertising campaigns.

Panzani supported the development in lifestyles and created culinary aids with Tomacouli, the first Spagheto sauce in 89 and the Quick Cook dishes in 96.
In 1997, Panzani joined the portfolio of Paribas Affaires Industrielles. The company became the leader in France in terms of pastas and sauces and occupied the 2nd spot in Europe!
